Doughboy Football

The Fort Benning Doughboys have been playing at historic Doughboy Stadium since it opened in 1925. Throughout their history, the team has had a winning record, with more wins than losses against the likes of Oglethorpe University, the University of Alabama and others. Perhaps the greatest of all the Doughboy teams was the 1962 squad. Led by Pat Dye, future coach of Auburn University, the team was undefeated.

The success of the Doughboys waned when Fort Benning Soldiers were called to fight in Vietnam. In 1983, the decision was made to disband the team in favor of a strong intramural program.

MWR Sports resurrected the Doughboy Football program in 2011 and they now play club and collegiate teams from across the region. Each year, the season culminates with the Doughboy Bowl between the Doughboys and the Columbus State University Cougars. This exciting event is free and open to the public.

Soldiers interested in trying out for the Doughboy Football Team should call the Sports Director.
