The Commander’s Cup Program promotes unit morale, Esprit de Corps, teamwork, physical fitness and to develop leadership and sportsmanship. The Fort Benning Sports Office offers several different Commander’s Cup League Sports in 2023. Commander’s Cup is Active Duty Only, played within your unit, and is about 6-8 weeks long followed by a single elimination tournament. Open Tournaments are open to anyone on Fort Benning with a DOD ID card 18+ and teams are not restricted. These tournaments range from a Double Elimination to a 4 week followed by a Single Elimination.
Through the program, units earn points toward the overall Commander’s Cup Award. While the top three winners in each event earn the most points — first-place teams earn the maximum of 100 points, for example — all teams receive points simply by taking part. After the end of the fiscal year, the Commander’s Cup Award is presented to the unit with the most accumulated points. In past seasons, this award has typically gone to units that participated in the most events.
To participate in each event, a unit’s designated sports representative must register by filing a letter of intent with the Sports Branch. Following registration, coaches of each team are strongly encouraged to attend a meeting, where Sports Branch officials will provide an overview of the specific rules of each contest and answer questions.
The following Sports are offered in 2023: Basketball, Volleyball, Kickball, Soccer, Softball, Golf, and Flag Football (see dates, times, league date and location below). A CC Coaches meeting will be held prior to each season., location depends on each sport. Coaches must attend meeting, bring your AAA-162!
