Ongoing Library Programming

Regular Storytime

Starting August 12, join us every Wednesday* for Storytime as we open up a book and adventure to new worlds. Participate in our fun-filled story session featuring two narrated tales along with an upbeat welcome song, two additional musical pieces, and a hands-on craft related to the stories.  Join us for a delightful experience tailored for our young readers!

  • Storytime Session 1 is from 10:30 to 11 a.m. and is for our tiny readers, up to 5 years old.
  • Storytime Session 2 starts at 11:30 a.m. and goes on until 12 p.m. and is for ages 5 and up!

Both age groups will enjoy the same captivating books, participate in fun, interactive activities designed to spark imagination and foster a love for reading.  Registration is not required, Storytime is free to attend; for more information, call +1 (706) 545-4911.

*Please note: 

  • The program will not take place November 11 and 25 and December 23 and 30.
  • On September 11, we will have a Special Edition Storytime: Honoring Our First Responders! with only one Storytime session but other fun activities – check the calendar for more information!
  • On October 28, regular Storytime will be replaced by a Special Edition Storytime: Trick or Treat, – check the calendar for more information!

Crafternoon

Join us December 5 and March 7, 2027, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Milton E. Long Library for making a fun and seasonal craft to take home. Discover the joy of creativity just for adults.  From DIY home décor to handmade gifts, our session features a new and exciting craft project.  We supply the materials, so all you need to bring is your enthusiasm and creativity.  Also, the perfect opportunity to meet and make new friends, share tips, and engage in fun conversations with fellow crafters. All materials (and fun!) are provided by the library. This is a FREE event exclusively for those 18 and older, but spots are limited, so be sure to register by calling the library at +1 (706) 545-4911.

Questionable Romance Book Club

Are you ready to dive into a book club that revels in the thrill of questionable choices, morally gray characters, and romances that make you gasp, "I can't believe I'm rooting for this!"? Welcome to the Questionable Romance Book Club! Join us every second Friday of the month from 4 to 5 p.m. as we explore a new romance novel, dissect the characters we adore, debate the choices we probably shouldn't defend (but totally will), and savor all the drama, spice, and unforgettable moments in between. 'Reading Rangers’ Children’s Book Club

Hey there, young adventurers aged 8-12!  Get ready to embark on an exciting journey with Reading Rangers, the ultimate monthly book club where stories come alive, and fun is guaranteed!

Every month, Reading Rangers dives into a thrilling new book, and we can't wait to hear your thoughts on the story, your favorite characters, and those unforgettable moments. But that's not all—each meeting is packed with a super fun activity inspired by the book of the month!

Choose the perfect time for your family to join the adventure:

  • Every third Tuesday from 4 – 5 p.m. &
  • Every third Friday from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.

All the action happens in the library's Programming Room, and both sessions offer the same book, discussion, and activity, so you only need to attend one session each month.  Whether your child is a bookworm or just starting to explore the magical world of reading, Reading Rangers is the perfect place for an unforgettable adventure! Join us and let the stories begin!

Teen Dungeons & Dragons Club

Whether you're a seasoned adventurer or a curious newcomer, all skill levels are welcome. Craft your character, join your party, and explore fantastical worlds filled with thrilling battles, mind-bending puzzles, and endless possibilities. Let the dice guide your journey and see where the story takes you!

For teens ages 13 to 17, our Adult Dungeons & Dragons Club happens every third Saturday of the month!  All experience levels are welcome, join us every third Friday of the month from 4 – 7 p.m.!

Adult Dungeons & Dragons Club

Join us for an epic adventure every third Saturday of the month from 12 to 3 p.m. in the Library Program Room! Whether you're a seasoned hero or have never rolled a d20 before, our Adult Dungeons & Dragons Club is the perfect place to unleash your imagination. Create unforgettable characters, explore treacherous lands, and battle fearsome creatures - let the dice decide your fate!

 All experience levels are welcome, from complete beginners to veteran players.  This thrilling event is FREE and exclusively for those 18 and older. Our Teen Dungeons & Dragons Club meets every third Friday of each month.

Writing Workshop

This is your chance to receive valuable feedback on your written works, dive into exciting creative writing sessions with or without prompts and connect with fellow writers in your community. The library is thrilled to offer a serene space for both quiet writing and dynamic collaboration, along with the opportunity to refine your pieces with insightful feedback. Whether you're a seasoned writer or just starting out, this workshop welcomes all skill levels and is designed for ages 16 and up.

Mark your calendars for every second Tuesday from 5 – 6 p.m. for the Writers Workshop.  Plus, don't miss our Free Write session on the last Saturday of each month  - an all-day extravaganza of uninhibited writing!

Once Upon a Saturday Storytime

Step into a cozy, magical morning of stories and creativity!

Starting August 15, join us every 3rd Saturday* from 10 – 11 a.m. for Once Upon A Saturday Storytime at the Milton E. Long Library. Participate in our fun-filled Saturday story session, offered specifically for families unable to attend the Wednesdays Storytime – but of course our Wednesdays readers are welcome too.

Once Upon A Saturday Storytime features two narrated tales along with an upbeat welcome song, two additional musical pieces, and a hands-on craft related to the stories. Join us for an awesome experience, we invite our young readers to attend in Pajamas!

Registration is not required, Once Upon A Saturday Storytime is free to attend and recommended for children up to 8; the final session is scheduled for November 21; for more information, call the Milton E. Long Library at +1 (706) 545-4911.

*Please note that the program will not take place October 17 due to Fort Benning’s Oktoberfest; come out to Uchee Creek and visit the Milton E. Long Library tent and participate in tons of fun activities. The final Storytime before the summer break happens on April 28, 2027.

Sensory Storytime

Starting August 20, join us every 3rd Thursday of the month from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. at the Milton E. Long Library.

We are thrilled to welcome back our Sensory Storytime, specially created for our friends who may need a different type of Storytime experience.  This small-group program is thoughtfully designed to accommodate children with sensory issues, including sensitivity to light, loud sounds, or large crowds. To keep the environment calm and comfortable, we are restricting the number of participants for each session to a maximum of 15 young readers.

To help everyone feel relaxed and have fun, we will:

  • Use dimmer lighting and quiet, soothing music.
  • Utilize props and adaptive pieces like scarves, fidgets, and bubbles.
  • Provide a gentle, supportive pace.

Registration is not required, Sensory Storytime is free to attend and recommended for children under 12 years of age with sensory sensitivities; the final session is scheduled for December 17; for more information, call the Milton E. Long Library at +1 (706) 545-4911.

 

Book Buddies: Children’s Book Club

  • Every third Tuesday of the month from 4 – 6 p.m., (except Federal Holidays) 
  • Join us for our new book club ‘Book Buddies’ for our youngest readers, ages 6-12!  We will meet monthly on the third Tuesday of the month (beginning January 21, 2025) from 4 – 6 p.m. at the Milton E. Long Library!
  • The Milton E. Long Library staff will announce next month’s book the month prior and participants can pick up the book at the circulation desk. We will discuss the book and work on a correlating craft/activity that relates to the book. This is a fun way to get the kids involved with reading and provide a social space to discuss literature.  No registration required; books can be picked up at the circulation desk one month before meeting date.  For more information and any questions about Book Buddies, please contact the Milton E. Tummy Time

  • Every other week on Mondays from 10 – 11 a.m. (except Federal Holidays)
  • Tummy Time is a new Library program for new parents/caregivers and pre-walking babies.  Join us every other Monday from 10 – 11 a.m. at the Milton E. Long Library.  Tummy Time will give new parents/caregivers a space to socialize and ask questions to other parents about the joys and difficulties being a new parent. Tummy time will give babies time and space to develop their muscle strength and coordination, as well as increased socialization.
  • Babies and parents will be led in fun and interactive songs that will incorporate bouncing, dancing, and movement. All toys, mats, and materials will be provided, but parents are welcome to bring blankets or toys from home if desired. No registration required, no fees. Tummy Time is for babies under a year.  For more information and any questions about Tummy Time, please contact the Milton E.
