Biodegradable Packaging Materials

Fort Moore is committed to a sustainable future!Compostable Package logo 3.jpg

Since January 2022, all MWR food facilities have been using biodegradable packaging materials provided and funded by the Fort Moore Qualified Recycling Program (QRP).  Look  for the above logo at our food facilities!

The following MWR food facilities use biodegradable food service packaging:

  1. Java Café Main Post
  2. Java Café Harmony Church
  3. Mall Bowling
  4. 1918 Club
  5. Jack's 19th Hole at the Golf Course
  6. Bowling & Entertainment Center.

These facilities met the minimum requirement of 75% utilization of biodegradable food service packaging in their daily operations.  They are making great strides in helping all of us to reduce our impact on the environment today to create a better future for all.   They are also receiving grant funds from the QPR to aid in this transition.  Any program on the installation may be eligible for this grant, all laws and regulations permitting and with no legal objection from our SJA.  The grant will cover 100% of the cost increase in supplies for that program for the first year and 50% for the following year.

What are biodegradable packaging materials?  Biodegradable materials are materials that can safely be disposed of in the natural environment, where they decompose and breakdown completely, in the presence of microorganisms like bacteria and fungi found in soil. A truly biodegradable material breaks down completely in less than a year and leaves behind no residue or trace.

As we move towards more sustainable ways to live, we’re increasingly looking for materials that are eco-friendly and do not contribute to our huge waste crisis.
