Interested in becoming a certified lifeguard? Our four-day courses cost $175 and participants will receive a 2-year lifeguard certification, which includes the American Red Cross Certification, lifeguarding, first aid, CPR and AED training. American Red Cross lifeguarding students must be at least 15 years old by the last day of class, and pass a pre-course swimming skills test prior to taking our course. Planning to be certified before the Summer Pool Season? Take our February, March or April classes to ensure you’re on board before the pools open! Use your Spring Break wisely!

Classes are held on the weekends except for the the Spring Break classes which are held everyday during the week.  Classes will start at 9am and are scheduled to finish at 5pm at Breezeway Pool:

  • 20-24 March (SPRING BREAK RUSSELL COUNTY); last day to register: March 10, 2023
• April 2023:

  • 22, 23, 29, 30 April (weekend class - Sat and Sun); last day to register: April 14, 2023

There are pre-requisites that need to be passed to continue with the lifeguard class.

Pre-requisites are as follows:

1. Must complete the pre-requisite prior to registering for a Lifeguarding Course
2. Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not   allowed. Swim goggles may be used.
3. Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.
4. Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds. ◦Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.
   1. Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
   2. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they can get a breath. Candidates should not swim the   distance under water.
   3. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
