Smith Mountain Fire Tower and Island Hop Hike

Ready for an unforgettable adventure?  Join Outdoor Recreation (ODR) on May 2 for an exhilarating day hike to Smith Mountain Fire Tower and Island Hop!

Discover the breathtaking beauty of Smith Mountain, a stunning Alabama landmark boasting a historic 90-foot fire tower. Nestled near Dadeville in Tallapoosa County and overlooking the magnificent Lake Martin, this spot offers jaw-dropping panoramic views. Trek the Tower Trail to the iconic fire tower and explore the Island Hop Trail, which connects a series of enchanting islands.  Dive into Alabama’s natural wonders and hike with ODR around the picturesque Lake Martin!

Meet us at Outdoor Recreation, 7310 Gillespie Street, Building 1707, on Saturday, May 2 at 8 a.m.  We’ll embark on our adventure to Smith Mountain and return to ODR by 3 p.m.  

Get ready for approximately 3 hours of hiking fun! While the trails are rated easy to moderate, participants must be at least 12 years old.  The participation fee is just $15 per person, and this exciting event is open to all ID cardholders and their families. The fee covers transportation, snacks, water, and parking fees.
