Field Day for Tri-Community Exceptional Children

Fort Benning hosts the sixth Field Day for Tri-Community Exceptional children on April 22 from 9:15 a.m. till 1 p.m.  This great event provides an opportunity for the community’s exceptional children to experience a day of fun, food and interactive sporting events and activities celebrating each child’s unique abilities while fostering the emotional and social growth of participants and supporting educators.

More than 1,500 students from all across the Chattahoochee Valley will meet at York and Stewart-Watson Field. Fort Benning Schools and Homeschoolers, students from Chattahoochee County, Phenix City, Russell County, Muscogee County and Harris County will participate in a great variety of fun and challenging activities such as:

  • 100, 50 and 25 Meter Race
  • Soccer Shoot
  • Bocce Ball
  • Home Run Derby (T-Ball)
  • Football Quarterbacking
  • Grenade Throw (bean bags, hula hoops)
  • Carnival Throw (tables, sets of cans, bean bags)
  • Tug of War (rope, sled)
  • Parachute (parachute, balls)
  • Dance Floor (dancing and music)
  • Paint party (paint on plywood)
  • Army Obstacle (tires, stakes with rope, tunnels, step over)
  • (all events are subject to change)

Our wheelchair students will meet at Smith Gym to participate in 25 Meter Dash, 25 Meter Kickball Carry, Bowling (with a kickball), Bean Bag target toss and Frisbee toss.

We start the day at 9:15 a.m. with a short opening and watch our great athletes run through the start ribbon to open up the games. Games run from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m., lunch is provided to all athletes and volunteers starting at 10 a.m.

The Silver Wings will jump in and award the first medal at around 11 a.m., each student athlete will receive a medal to remember this great day.

There will be limited parking at the surrounding areas and streets (building 4 and 6), also expect traffic delays the day of the event, especially in the morning.
